It is always great to see you and find out what new innovations are being developed for the ORSim system. It continues to be one of the most popular and effective skill development and assessment tools used in the simulation curriculum for Nurse Anesthesia Residents, and the feedback during clinical from the Thoracic Surgeons and Anesthesiologists is always resoundingly positive regarding FO skills.

The ORSIM® is a remarkable training program which can be used by many different practitioners to learn the art of flexible bronchoscopy. As compared to other training devices of this technique, it provides various high fidelity case scenarios with different skill level requirements. Also, there are sophisticated methods of tracking progress which allow the practitioner to build on previous performances. We are excited to utilize the ORSIM® in our residents' curriculum and in our future difficult airway workshops.

The ORSIM has been a great educational resource for the anaesthetic department. It has been used extensively by consultants, trainees and medical students and the vast majority seem very impressed by it.

I used the ORSIM airway simulator last week and I was very impressed. It was my first experience using such a sophisticated difficult airway learning tool. Up to this point, my training involved using bronchoscopes on manikins and controlled situations with actual patients in the OR. I found the ORSIM airway simulator to closely mimic using an actual bronchoscope on patients. The simulator offered useful basic airway and pulmonary anatomy and difficult airway scenarios. All of which I found very beneficial.”

A resident of our department attended the World Airway Management Meeting (WAMM) in Dublin, November 2015. A few days after the meeting, we together performed an awake fiberoptic intubation of a patient with very challenging airway anatomy. I let the resident handle the endoscope and he performed surprisingly well. I knew that he had only attended awake fiberoptic intubations, but not performed any so far; so I congratulated him and expressed my surprise. He said: "You know, at WAMM I practised on the ORSIM until I finally accomplished all scenarios and, I have to say, that I felt very confident maneuvering through this airway." Of course I cannot tell whether the resident would not have performed equally well after having trained on some other kind of training device. However, ORSIM, with all its different scenarios, the computer-based approach, the statistics on performance, etc. seems to encourage candidates to keep on practising until they finally accomplish. By this, it seems they acquire psycho-motorskills and the ability to maneuver within a three-dimensional area that most probably also helps in real-life situations.

I just arrived from Cairo after finishing a successful airway workshop with the Egyptian Society of Anesthesiologists and all candidates and instructors were impressed with ORSIM. ORSIM was the corner-stone of our success .

We run an Airway Training Center (CTVA) in São Paulo, Brazil. A few years ago we bought our first ORSIM and it improved the quality of fiberoptic training undoubtedly. The practitioners started to be more confident and skilled with different simulated scenarios. What we realized after 2 courses was that the simulator reduced the number of casualties with the flexible bronchoscopes. This was so significant that we decided to buy the second simulator and during the rotations in the workshops, one shows the regular cases and anatomy and the second one shows the difficult cases. This was an upgrade in the workshop quality and also financially since we reduced the necessity of repairing the flexible bronchoscopes.
